The Project Don't Wait Faculty Directors are seeking temporary, part-time (.725FTE) clinicians/counselors to provide direct counseling services to K-12 students impacted by natural disasters. The clinicians will work directly with parents and families to build resource networks to address the idiosyncratic needs of students and families in relation to disasters (e.g., housing needs in circumstances of transiency and displacement, coordination of resources for specialty mental health counseling services if needed, substance use, in-patient, exceptional children services). The clinicians will also help students and parents establish plans to acquire economic and other necessary resources in cases of disasters, coordinate referrals, and follow-up sessions. The clinicians will facilitate intervention programs at schools that have been determined to have the most need for services. The lead clinician also will review the district's crisis response policies and make recommendations for revisions to include disaster preparedness and response protocols relevant to the rural context grounded in evidence-based approaches. School-Based clinicians will report to the Project Don't Wait Program Coordinator and Faculty Directors.
*This position is contingent upon availability of grant funds. The person in this position should have access to a computer and reliable internet in order to implement remote activities if necessary.
Job duties: Provide direct mental healthcare services, serve as a liaison for students, family, community members; Co-facilitate counseling intervention program; attend intervention trainings; connect students and their families with appropriate services embedded within the community who will provide service and support for non-academic issues that impact student learning and wellbeing; Engage in and enhance meaningful collaboration and relationships amongst school and community stakeholders; Actively engage in ongoing communication with parents to ensure they are informed about their child's progress within the school and to ensure families are aware of school resources available for their child and their family; Work collaboratively with university and school staff; Facilitate the broad goals of grant program accordingly and collaboratively with teachers, school staff, the and ECU faculty members to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the Project Don't Wait; assist in developing and implementing trainings: other duties as assigned.

Masters in Counselor Education, or related field such as school counseling, or mental health counseling. Excellent oral and written communication skills; evidence of skills working with diverse student populations. Experience delivering comprehensive school or community-based counseling services. All qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions.

The Counselor Education Program in the College of Education is seeking to hire staff for the SAMHSA grant award program FG000155-01 titled Don’t Wait-Communicate: Disaster Mental Health Preparation and Response in Rural Schools and Communities (Project Don't Wait). The goal of Project Don't Wait is to 1) improve the mental health of school-aged youth through increased access to disaster mental health services, 2) increase parental/family involvement to address the impact of adverse childhood experiences, 3) increase skills and responsiveness of professionals and community stakeholders to better identify and address the early indication of traumatic stress and other symptoms related to disasters, 4) foster collaborative home, school, university and rural community networks who are prepared to respond to disasters, and 5) build sustainable programs in rural schools by supporting district partners' school behavioral health personnel capacity to implement disaster behavioral health treatment programming.
