This position reports to the Director of Upper School. The position involves responsibility for the Design content area within an integrated middle grades Studio curriculum.
This position serves as an academic advisor.
This introductory design program is focused on students’ developing sense of agency based in curiosity, empathy, experimentation, critical thinking, and collaboration; while exploring the Design Process through hands-on learning experiences.
This position involves active collaboration with other studio disciplines including the theater department with design and production assistance..
Communication and collaboration with parents is also an important responsibility. All Upper School teachers share in covering routine duties, attending weekly faculty meetings, and engaging in professional learning on a regular basis.
Quality of mind, passion for teaching, and commitment to the education of middle grades children are essential. In addition, the position requires the ability to work collaboratively within a grade level team and to communicate effectively with parents. Maintain awareness of current trends in design, engineering and architecture. Foster connections between students and contemporary developments.
Specific qualifications include:
Orientation to progressive philosophy and teaching methods
Formal training in education and/or an applicable design discipline.
Experience leading learning in a school, makerspace or community program preferred.*
Experience with traditional and digital fabrication tools and techniques
Experience with school appropriate digital design resources both 2D and 3D.
Experience leading students in design for interactive digital devices.
Experience in project-based learning curriculum development
Experience in differentiating curriculum
