The position offers an excellent blend of administration, clinical care, teaching and scholarly activities in a growing, multidisciplinary and collegial Department. The position is full-time and is expected to provide at least 60 percent administrative time at the ECU Brody School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine (DoBM) and at the Vidant Behavioral Health Service Line. On the administrative side, the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Integration will spend sixty percent (60%) of their time to serving as the Executive Director of Vidant Behavioral Health Service Line and as Vice Chair for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. The Vice Chair will also spend thirty percent (30%) of his/her time to direct patient care within a multi-county region in eastern North Carolina providing assessments and direct clinical care to patients in the outpatient and/or inpatient settings, including both face-to-face and telehealth; participating in on-call and vacation-coverage schedules; approximately five percent (5%) assisting in teaching and clinical supervision of medical students, residents, psychology interns, and other learners; the remaining five percent (5%) will be spent collaborating with other faculty members conducting clinical research and functioning as a University faculty member, performing such duties as are appropriate to academic rank and title. The Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Integration for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine will work closely with the Department Chair, Department Administrator, and Behavioral Health Service Line Administrator and will be responsible for the following:
Serve as the Chair's designee for the role of Executive Director, VH Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL).
Provides clinical leadership and oversight for the Vidant Behavioral Health Service Line to ensure the hospital meets all accreditation and regulatory standards. Broadly defined, the responsibilities include:
1.Provides oversight and overall clinical leadership for the provision of behavioral health services across the service line. 2.Oversees delivery of services that result in the desired clinical outcomes that serve the needs of our patients and families and are consistent with current professional knowledge. 3.Organizes and leads multidisciplinary processes and measures to develop, maintain, and update clinical pathways, guidelines and care plans based on best practice and current standards of care as related to behavioral health to advance clinical integration and performance improvement . 4.Responsible for oversight of clinical practice provided by physicians, advanced practitioners and other clinical staff. 5.Provides leadership for the clinical staff in quality, process improvement and resource management activities. 6.Provides leadership for the Clinical Integration Committee and actively supports and develops behavioral health physician leadership in the service line 7.Seeks to understand and meet the needs of referring physicians. Serves as clinical liaison to affiliated medical programs and affiliated institutions. 8.Supports and promotes behavioral health education and research activities across the service line. 9.Provides guidance for the recruitment of BH physicians for VH and ECU, participating in interviews and assisting with orientation of new physicians. 10.Leads the BH Service Line Executive Committee and guides the prioritization of discovery and implementation charter work 11.Advises and assists the behavioral health administrative leader in developing, modifying and implementing the Behavioral Health business plan. 12.Participates in and promotes the development of new services for the Behavioral Health Service Line including hospital and community based services. 13.In collaboration with the stakeholders, creates and refines a BHSL strategic plan and works with leadership to achieve goals of the plan. 14.Assists the behavioral health administrative executive and staff to plan the annual budget and achieve the financial performance objectives of the system. 15.Develops and maintains relationships within the medical community and serves as the main spokesperson to the community, as it relates to behavioral health services at VH. 16.Monitors state and national workforce and care delivery tends and emerging technologies. Provides leadership to incorporate trends as appropriate into service line growth and innovation plans. 17.Maintains a dynamic creative environment that fosters the spirit of partnership and entrepreneurship in building and maintaining behavioral health services. 18.Works in partnership with the ECU Brody School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine to assist in the functioning of the residency training programs and support the education of fellows, residents, medical students, and other healthcare professionals, as deemed appropriate.
Serves as the lead for all clinical quality initiatives in the Department.
Assists the chair in annual reviews; faculty career guidance/promotion and reappointments; and faculty recruitment.
Development and implementation of policies and procedures to guide and support clinical and academic services.
Participates with the Chair in responding to, and resolving strategic and sensitive issues.
In the chair's absence, provides short-term, overall administrative and operational direction for the department.
Participates in creation and refinement of a behavior health strategic plan and works with leadership to achieve the goals of the plan.
Attends leadership meetings, including medical staff.
Assists Vidant leadership in enforcing medical bylaws and policies.
Works with medical staff to establish the criteria for clinical privileges for behavior health.
Works collaboratively with VH administration and medical staff leadership on peer review, quality of care issues, effective utilization management, infection control, and clinical efficiency.
Any other duties assigned by the department chair.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Medical degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
Completion of an accredited psychiatric residency training program.
Board Certification in Psychiatry.
Experience and demonstrated track record in psychiatric administration, management, and leadership
Experience working collaboratively with other mental health professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Experience working in academic healthcare settings is preferred
