Our growing hospital currently has 13 operating rooms plus two procedural rooms and one cystoscopy room. Our interdisciplinary team performs general surgery, open/laparoscopic, cardiovascular, orthopedics, plastics, neurosurgery, OHN, gynecology, robotic, and urology. Job Summary:
The SurgicalSpecialties Team Leader is a management representativefor the O.R., its patient population and assigned staff. The Team Leader works with the Departmental Supervisor and Managers in the coordination of staff, equipment, and resources to facilitate the smooth flow of cases in the O.R. Supplies, instrumentation, and equipment are coordinated with the Administrative Operations Manager. Position is responsible for assessing and developing the clinical skills of current staff and participating in the orientation of new staff. Responsibility includes regularly staffing rooms within assigned specialties, participating in staff call coverage and rotation of shifts as indicated. He/she has responsibility and accountability for coordinating and/or providing total nursing care based on standards of practice/standards of care as appropriate for the age of the patient. Work Performed Demonstrate clinical expertise in the execution of the nursing processand serve as a resource person for the unit staff. Deliver direct patient care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrate sound knowledge/skills to assess, treat, and care for specific age groups. Documentation of successful completion of annual self-instructional unit regarding age appropriate care for the infant, toddler, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. a. Obtain and interprets information in terms of the patient's needs. b . Has a knowledge of growth and development. c. Understand the range of treatment needed by the patients.Coordinate, facilitate, and document the family's or guardian's involvement in the Care Plan including, but not limited to, assessment, treatment, and continuing care (applies to the infant, child and adolescent). Coordinate equipment, instrumentation,and supply needs for assigned services with the Administrative Operations Manager. Participate in planning and managing capital needs for the O.R. as well as departmental supply budgets. Function as a liaison between engineering, biomedicalengineering, and manufacturing representatives to ensure proper operation and service of equipment.Report any malfunctioning or broken equipment or instruments. Follow up to see that repairs areprovided on a timely basis. Document all service work performedon equipment in a ccordance with engineering department policies and procedures. Ensure that preventive maintenance is provided as scheduled. Trouble shoots and performs repairs as needed. Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering, equipment manufacturer and Department of engineering for Function as a role model in all clinical specialties; demonstrates competency in clinical judgment , technical skills, and appropriate knowledge base. Routinely staff rooms within assigned specialties in both the scrub and circulating roles. Participate in the staff call rotation and in the rotation of off shifts as indicated. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities *Knowledge/skills to assess, treat, and care for specific age groups. *Leadership skills in delegation, organization andcoordination. *Problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision making. Level Characteristics N/Amajor repairs as needed. Seek input from staff and coordinates the maintenance of preference cards/charge sheets toinsure accuracy. Demonstrate economical use of supplies and equipment. Demonstrate proper use of all equipment within the OR.Take initiative to ensure timeliness of surgical procedures through appropriate availability of equipment for surgeons/case.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required.
Experience
Three years of experience in nursing practice.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Must have current or compact RN license in the State of North Carolina. BCLS certification is required. Must obtain a nursing leadership certification within two years of hire of appointment.
