This is a full-time faculty position to serve as the Medical Director for the Inpatient Psychiatry Service at Halifax Regional Medical Center, ECU Health, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina This position will serve as the lead psychiatrist for the inpatient service. ECUHEALTH provides acute, intermediate, rehabilitation, and outpatient health services to more than 1.4 million people in 29 counties. The position emphasizes a leadership role and an active engagement in clinical, educational, and scholarly activities
In addition, the successful candidate will also provide direct clinical care, assist in the teaching and clinical supervision of medical students, residents, and other health professional trainees; collaborate with other faculty members in conducting clinical research, with the opportunity to initiate projects if desired; and function as a University faculty member, performing such duties as appropriate to academic rank and position.
Responsibilities Include:
1. Collaborating with leadership in area of responsibility;
2. Supporting employee satisfaction endeavors;
3. Under supervision of the Chief of Service, providing medical administrative direction to the
Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) of the hospital, providing a liaison with the members of the
professional staff of the hospital and working in concert with the BHU Administrator to carry
out the policies of the Board of Directors of the hospital and to review professional standards
of practice within the BHU;
4. Developing policies and procedures in concert with leadership staff and appropriate
departments of the hospital administration and the medical staff that will assure quality
patient care, active treatment, appropriate level of professional and technical staff and
personnel and will review professional standards of practice within the hospital;
5. Developing, appropriate in-service and continuing education programs for the hospital staff
and medical staff;
6. Providing medical leadership for program and/or services through regularly scheduled
meetings including participation in the program's unit leadership management meeting and
other committees as requested by the program administrator;
7. Reviewing all professional practices within the program and, in collaboration with the Chief of
Service, take appropriate action where indicated;
8. Providing all other services required to ensure that the program is run in an efficient prudent
manner so as to provide patients with the best possible care;
9. Ensuring compliance with the medical staff bylaws of the hospital by all medical staff
members with privileges with respect to the program;
10. Providing the Chief of Service and the hospital with timely information and reports related to
all treatment programs to the extent appropriate and in accordance with the physician's
primary obligation to ensure confidentiality of certain patient information;
11. Ensuring compliance with Program Quality Assurance and Utilization Review policies and
procedures;
12. Keeping the Chief of Service and the hospital informed of all pertinent activities related to the
treatment program;
13. Working closely with the Chief of Service, providing direction to hospital and program staff in
maintaining those standards of care established by national agencies including the Joint
Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO);
14. Working collaboratively with administration to enhance relationships with private practice
physicians and develop initiatives that encourage their involvement with Behavioral Health
Services; and
15. Working closely with the Chief of Service, overseeing the implementation and us of Best
Practices and Evidence-Based Practices in psychiatric treatment

Minimum Education/Experience:
Graduate of a medical school approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the AAMC and the Council of Medical Education of the AMA. (MD or DO)
Completion of an accredited psychiatric residency training program or Graduate of an approved combined medicine-psychiatry or family medicine-psychiatry residency training program.
Board certified in psychiatry
Evidence of Board Certification in Psychiatry, OR eligibility for appropriate board certification as specified in the ECU Physicians Credentialing Plan. If not yet board certified, board certification will be expected in accordance with ECU Physicians Credentialing Plan.

Halifax Regional Medical Center is a 204-bed hospital that includes a medical staff of over 60 physicians. With a service area that includes Halifax, Northampton, and Warren Counties, the hospital offers a board range of medical and surgical services including 24-hour emergency care, primary and specialty care, and diagnostic services.
The hospital has a 20-bed adult psychiatric unit (Woodside) with 5 beds designated for IVC's and 6 transfer beds in the ED with an average census of 14-16 patients and an average length of stay 7-10 days.
