The School of Social Work (SSW) and the Adams School of Dentistry (ASOD) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invite applications and nominations for a fixed-term open rank clinical faculty position in the non-tenure track. This full-time faculty position will serve as the Social Work Care Coordinator and will hold joint appointments in Dentistry and Social Work. The School of Social Work will provide primary supervision of this position. The Adams School of Dentistry will be the primary worksite.

Together, a Social Work Care Coordinator will be responsible for developing and organizing this position to support social work services within the Adams School of Dentistry, and student learning within both Schools. This clinical faculty position is a 12-month (1.0 FTE) appointment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following primary areas:
Behavioral Health & Care Management Interventions (25%) Deliver and evaluate social work services within the Adams School of Dentistry Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Dental Hygiene (DH) student clinics to increase the retention of dental patients having difficulty completing treatment due to transportation issues, behavioral health issues, health complications, financial limitations, or other barriers to dental care, including participation in clinical huddles. Provide assessments and brief, solution-focused, time-limited interventions to increase access to dental care for identified patients. Provide brief case management to identified patients. Work within existing clinical structures/operations to develop ways for student learners and attending faculty to seek social work consultation services.
Teaching/Education (50%) Teach integrated behavioral sciences content in the DDS curriculum, in collaboration with the appropriate course directors and in coordination with Associate Dean for Curriculum. Assist in the development of behavioral sciences assessment tools and experiences, including participation in grading. Co-lead the Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPEP) intramural rotation with third-year DDS students, in partnership with the ASOD's clinical pharmacist. Teach one MSW course during the academic year (to be negotiated with the Associate Dean for MSW Education at the School of Social Work).
Engagement (15%) Collaborate in co-leading behavioral sciences as part of accreditation standards. Collaborate with financial, transportation, behavioral health, health, and legal community services when appropriate. Collaborate with faculty at the Adams School of Dentistry and School of Social Work to organize and present material at relevant dental and social work conferences. Attend lectures and training as necessary to enhance education and practice. Collaborate interprofessionally across campus and units via the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice, UNC Health, and other entities.
Supervision (10%) Collaborate with School of Social Work's MSW program and its Practicum Education Program to ensure ASOD is a practicum placement site for MSW students to provide case management services to patients. *Directly supervise and coordinates tasks for MSW students who provide case management services to dental school patients.
Education and Experience:
A minimum 3 years post-MSW direct practice experience is preferred.
