The Atrium Health Cabarrus Emergency Medicine PGY2 Pharmacy Residency Program offers residents a diverse learning experience. While the emergency department is the primary practice setting, residents will also have time dedicated to other activities, including but not limited to, learning in other practice areas, committee involvement, and teaching. This PGY2 pharmacy residency program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in emergency medicine. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
The focus of this program is to further prepare pharmacist clinicians for direct patient care positions in the emergency department/critical care setting. Atrium Health Cabarrus’ training environment provides the framework for preparing pharmacists who will provide patient-centered medication therapy management across the health care continuum including transitions of care.
The Atrium Health Cabarrus Emergency Medicine PGY2 Pharmacy Residency Program offers patient-centered, medication-related learning experiences. Required areas of focus include, but are not limited to, cardiology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, neurology, pulmonology, resuscitation, and toxicology, as they relate to emergency medicine. Elective opportunities include, but are not limited to, antimicrobial stewardship, behavioral health, critical care, interdisciplinary patient care, and pediatrics, as they relate to emergency medicine.
